Congrats on the new snake. I agree that you should put the smallest snake in the smaller enclosure. Good luck.

I'm confused here, but, by the time your female is big enough for a 40 gal wouldnt it make more sense to buy another 40 gal (or other appropriate size) instead of switching Geno back to a 20 gal? Granted this depends on their individual growth rate but by then wouldn't Geno have outgrown a 20 gal?

Well, I was thinking before I got Geno I needed a 40 gal. But I read males will be OK in a 20 gal because
    1. They generally stay smaller
    2. BPs arent too active anyway

And I made a thread about this before I got him and as quoted by craigafrechette: "A 20 gallon would be fine for a while, and probably forever with a male, but I prefer 40 gallon breeder tanks". So I just assumed it was ok? The 20 gallon was ALOT cheaper than a 40 gal. When I got May the 40 gallons were on sale and I just went ahead. I knew she'd probably need the 40 gallon her whole life. I can probably eventually get a 40 gallon for them both, I'll just have to save up :P So in the mean time, I guess I'll switch their thanks to were Geno's in the 40 and May in the 20. Then all I'll do is switch May to a 40 gallon when she gets bigger so they both have 40 gallons... does that make sense? But thats a great point thanks :D

Yellow was miserable once he outgrew his 20gal at ~600g. based solely on my personal experience with Yellow, a male beep can absolutely outgrow a 20gal. Yellow's change in behavior (refusing hides, food, and hiding beneath the substrate) is why i pulled the trigger on a T8. he could probably do fine in something a bit smaller, but for now it's all his and he's happy.

don't bet on your male staying small enough for a 20gal for life is the point i'm trying to make, that's all.

also CONGRATS ON THE NEW PICKUP!!! lovely lovely little girl!

Sounds like a plan :gj: I'm not sure if this is a global thing, but I seem to recall Petco has seasonal $1 per gallon sales. So when it's time to upgrade you can always look for sale dates and take advantage of some sweet deals :p

and btw CONGRATS can't believe I forgot to say that, May is so gorgeous! It's no wonder you got her, she's too stunning to ignore!
