You NEED to have your UTH (heat mat) and any heat sources (your bulbs) running through a thermostat. ThermoMETERS only measure temps. ThermoSTATS regulate the temps the UTH/bulbs can produce.
Running a UTH is very dangerous when not regulated by a thermostat. Those mats can spike to as high as 120 degrees, which, as you can imagine, can be VERY dangerous to your snake. They can be seriously burned or the heat spikes can even be fatal for the snake.
Google search burned snake and check out some pics, but be prepared some are fairly graphic.

I haven't been sleeping so I did not understand- boyfriend read, we immediately turned off lamp. Fear not, using this forum diy we are putting together a dimmer switch based one for until the auto arrives. DIY will be backup attached to the auto. DIY set up by a mechanic who works care electrical stuff all day.

got humidity controls set up as well.

I am also prepping to switch to bin if we can't get it and sell the tank. So we have a backup if we can get him hiding and eating in a week or so.
