What about a compromise. Have you considered a Bearded Dragon. They get a fair bit of size on them, they are often quite personable and take to human handling quite well and they do not attain the size of an iggy. They do require a special diet and caging but that can be researched beforehand.
I have a friend who does iguana rescue. She just took in three more last week. Luckily enough two were healthy enough for rehoming, the last one...a baby...well we are praying and hoping he'll live through his previous owner's care.
Please remember when you consider a green iggy that is a major decision and not a "starter" lizard for anyone. This is a creature that will grow quite large and even the best tempered ones can inflict serious damage with bites and tail whips. They require very large caging as they mature. They are never easy to rehome and many sit in reptile rescues year after year. Most rescues will not consider you for adoption if you have no previous experience with iguana's.
Jumping from considering a crestie or a cornsnake to a green iguana is a VERY big jump. I hope you rethink this.
