Re: The Great Debate: Pop vs. Soda
Originally I am from Michigan, so I say Pop. Now I live in Georgia and everyone says Soda. (It's also the home of Coca-Cola Corp. so a double whammy to the Pop people.)

The reality is Pop and Soda are both abbreviated versions of the longer original term Soda Pop. So everybody is correct. Except for those who say Coke. That is just wrong and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Pop? yeah i love to have a cold pop when i'm all tuckered out from pushing my hoop with a stick, lol.
But seriously, its soda, although pop is silly, but not crazy
"Coke" as a generic? thats crazy. Its as bad as my midwestern relatives who refer to all rubber soled athletic shoes (sneakers) as "tennis shoes".

FYI, we call them all "Coke" down here because Coke was invented here. While Dr Pepper (also invented here) technically came out one year earlier, Coke gets all the credit. So folks see all sodas are a derivative of Coke so there ya go.

They are all Tennis Shoes in the south too. Or sometimes "Tenny Shoes!"

And if anyone cares, we call shopping carts "buggies" here.

MN and we say pop here, if you say Coke you are getting a Coca-Cola. Soda we would just look at you weird.

    What
Shouldn't the question be what do you put in your coke, pop, soda, dew to make it more enjoyable?
