Re: Tank Setup, just showing off my new Baby. Any feedback?
I think everyone's covered most things tbh ..

As mentioned already those log hides aren't really fit for purpose as they are just not gonna feel secure in a hide with openings at each end .. imagine if it was you camping in a tent with two openings :)

If it's big enough and you're set on keeping it , I'd put it in a corner and use the glass as a block for one of the holes ... it will also look better anyways as you're not supposed to put /place ANYTHING exactly in the middle of a tank / Viv / photos / painting .. ..

You can run it deeper but i wouldnt go over 1/2". I use aspen so what i do is make the cool side a little deeper and the warm side with the flexwatt a little thinner. The snakes will push the substrate aside if they want more heat. Key is to always run a t-stat. Otherwise running too deep of substrate can cause the heat tape to overheat and possibly melt something.

I like the set up except you need to get the humidity to around 70% and like others have said, ditch the half log. Once the snake poops or pisses on it, it's done. If you want something more natural for a hide, check out any of the ceramic decorations they have at pet shops. Just be sure you avoid any hides with a closed off circle. Boas can get stuck in them if they try and double back on themselves and then you will have problems. Always go with a half moon or open circle. If you dont care about the more sterile look, you can get nice black ABS hides from Reptile Basics. All of my small snakes like them and the big ones get dish tubs i flip over and cut a half moon door in. I do have RB jumbo hides which are constructed awesome but require a large cage for them. I'll be using them in my T25s.

And i personally prefer belly heat over top heat. All my cage stacks run Flexwatt being controlled by a Herpstat 6.
