Advice on cutting open a hide

This type of hide is absolutely wrong for snakes. Don't get fish décor, get the hides that you can simply lift off of your snake. A few members have had to destroy the hide to get the snake out after it got stuck.

bcr229 is right - the few fish decor things we still use are artificial plants, or things they can't get stuck in - the undersides/interiors are more or less bowl-shaped.

I would wait it out before trying to get him out with a saw or any other tools.

Just a thought here, not sure if it's a good one or not, but maybe if scenting doesn't entice him out try putting the hide somewhere safe but without any heat? Maybe he'll get cold and crawl out looking for warmth? Or maybe turn off the heat in the enclosure and wait it out?

You're right, I also have an All Living Things rock hide and although it looks cool, when I pick it up my BP usually goes with it... and it can be difficult to gently pry him out... neither of us need that stress.

Ok cut it out. Not hard to do with the right tools and a little caution. I would get a dremmel took and the round sanding rock and slowly a half moon around the opening that already there. I have used this tool many times. You can put it on your hand and it won't cut u but it sands through anything. Actually just used it on a hide that had a chunk out of it to smooth it down and use it on my dogs nails each week. I'll put a pic up of what I'm talking about.you can get a knock off brand dremmel like tool for 15 bucks or so and the stone for three or 4 bucks

I'll bow to you DIY guys but the presumably the vibration will be horrendous using a dremmel ??

I kinda like the needle-nosed pliers suggestion where you concentrate the pressure and there is no vibration.

I still think it will come out itself given time ..
