Re: A little confused about RHP's
Spoke to Bob at Pro Products and put an order in for an RHP. I will also be upgrading from a tub to an Animal Plastics T8 enclosure. The upgrade is a little sooner then I wanted but it's needed.

On this cage and 2 other 6 footers I have it dead center. To achieve a 90 degree hot spot it gives me a cool side of 79-81. I am glad that I didn't place the probe into the cool side, I believe that would cause a warmer cool side. I could be wrong though.

Good decision, you are on your way to a great forever home. :)

What temp do you set your stat at to get that gradient? I have mine dangling under the RHP set to 87 and the floor reaches 88-90 but the cool side will generally only be 3 degrees above the room temp if the ambient in the room is less than 77.

I have four six footers stacked, so I'm not going to be any help to you.
All four cages are touching, no spacers, so I'm taking advantage of all heat sources to actually heat two cages to some extent.
My bottom cage is set at 78.6 because the belly on the cage above is at 112.4. (Belly heat of cage 2 is directly above the RHP of cage 1)
The second cage RHP is set at 80.3 because the belly heat on #3 cage is the same 112.4.
The third cage is set at 87 because the heat is on the opposite side of cage four. It's a Boaphile cage and the RHP can not go on the other side because of the way it is built. I know,it doesn't make sense for the forth cage but since heat is on the opposite side it will get too hot on the cool side if any hotter on the hot side.
I played with different probe placements, but this wacky set up worked best.
