As for "make sure you register with law enforcement" in most places, that's not required. It's that pesky 2nd amendment to the constitution that says you have a right to keep and bear arms. The only reason for registration is to know who has em', so you know where to go to take em' away.

I have a CCW permit. I rarely carry, but it's nice to know that I can if I want to or feel I'm going someplace that might be dangerous.

HIya guys....First post and it is about a weapon....go figure..lol

Glock 26's are nice little weapons that have only 1 downside...If ya got medium to large hands your pinky will hang off the bottom...

never has bothered me, but some like to put Pearce Grip extensions on them to give them more control...While the 26 doesnt jump around like the 27 or the 32 it can still help a bit for those not used to shooting such small weapons...

Every week I get a mass email from the provost to all students regarding crime activity around campus. The issue is that 90% of "on-campus" students actually live just blocks away throughout the fan district. VCU Police have zero jurisdiction there, and do not patrol those blocks, leaving it to Richmond Police. Most of the recent robberies involve perps who are brandishing knives to the victim and demanding wallets and cell phones and stuff.

To make it even better for us students, VCU prohibits the possesion of ANY kind of weapon on campus grounds by students including knives and firearms. I know a few people who concealed carry anyway, but it doesn't discourage prospective criminals to know that students walking to and from class are most likely unarmed because of school policy.

    Greetings all:

I was wondering about the concealed carry on campus. Most states outlaw such even if you have a permit. I know in Florida, even though I am a Police Officer, I can't carry concealed on a state colledge campus, unless I am on official police business. So be carefull with that one.

As for your choice in the Glock 26, be sure you do a bunch of shooting with it to get aquanted with the erganomics of the weapon. Also, make sure you hold on to it very well, of course to keep from the little guy jumping out of your hand, but also, because the Glock is recoil opperated, and if you try to obsorb the recoil in your wrist and arm, it will malfunction. (won't feed the next round correctly) You have chosen in my humble opinion the very best brand of handgun. The Glock 22 .40 cal. is what we issue my officers, and I am the department Firearms instructor, so I have seen a bunch of different ones. Most of you name brand guns are very well built but few compair to the durribility of the glock.

Someone on this thread meantoned having the Rugar p89. That is the same weapon that I went through the acadamy with. It never failed me. My stance on the Glock however, is very unwavering. This is mostly due to my experience with guns. Not only am I an instructor, but I worked part time in a gun shop for a while as well. While I was there, I had the chance to view a very inspiring durrability test that Glock did to it's pistol. I was very impressed. They abused that poor pistol so very bad, droped it 300 feet out oh a helocopter onto pavement, Ran it over with a Cat D-9, submurdged it in mud, froze it in a block of Ice (and broke it out with a hammer and shot it while it was still at freezint temps..) Not to mention it is the only semi auto pistol that will fire under water. They did all of this to the same pistol, and it never failed to fire. And if you are considering carrieing concealed, the finish on the Glock is a "Tinnifer" finish that only Glock has. It is more tarnish resistant than Stanless Steel.

Also remember only shoot metal jacketed bullets out of your Glock!!!!!!! Never shoot lead ball ammo!!!!!!The new frangible ammo is o.k. as well, however, it is expencive to shoot. Just Never shoot the lead ball ammo! Other than that it will eat just about anything.

By the way. You all realize that if Rosie O'Donell ever reads this thread, she will hunt all of us down and scream at us for being vile gun owners don't yall.....lol And enjoy your rights now, while you still can because they are stedally taking them away.

As for myself, I have a fairly extencive collection, some for hunting, some for protection, Some for work. My favorite is my sniper rifle..... I love shooting that thing. It takes all of the work out of making acurate shots. I also love shooting my bow. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in another post, Iwill probably not hunt with it this year, but I will still be shooting it.

As for home protection, when folks ask I usually recomend a shotgun of some description. This is for several reasons.

    1. You don't have to be a marksman to hit what you are aiming at.
    2. You don't have to worry about the rounds goig through three walls and into the street to hit a child or inocent walker by.
    3. Take a 12 ga with OObuck shot. You now have 12 .357 rounds flying down range instead of one. Your odds are better that the dirt bag will not survive to finish what he was doing or sue.
    4. No offence ladies, but for the weomen out there that get a bit freaked out with guns, or men for that matter, a good pump shotgun or double barrel shotgun will have fewer problems such as jamming, than alot of you semi auto pistols.
    5. Unless you have ever been in a dark room and heard the metalic sound of a pump shotgun racking back and slamming shut, you can't understand the intimidation that will occurr. That is what we refer to at work as the international sound for silence, and responce. That sound will stop 30 people from fighting and make them pay attention to you. Much less if you are where you arn't supposed to be, you will be more apt to just be ready to get the heck out of there.

That is my two cents. Happy shooting all, and to all a good night.

Re: Just made my first personal 'protection' purchase!
Ray, thanks for the reply. I did a lot of homework on what type and brand to purchase, and most (if not all) of those in law enforcement that I spoke to said to go with a Glock and nothing less- one officer said he'd rather trust his life to a baseball bat than some other cheaper semi-autos.

I went to a firing range here and shot an S&W .38, Glock 19, 26, and 40. The 19 was my favorite, with the 40 just kicking back way too much for my hands. With the 40, my 2nd and 3rd sequential shots got dangerously less accurate. I decided to go with the 26 because of its size, while keeping the stoppability of a 19. I went ahead and bought a Pearce grip extension for my 26, and it feels much better.

And as far as the CCW laws on campus- I did some research and found that I was told wrong - Virginia Tech is the only state college that allows "Authorized Use Only" (Authorized Use Only Policy states that firearms possession is for authorized use only - ROTC, rifle team or a specific educational activity). All other campuses have Zero Tolerance.

    Oh my Ray! LOL.

Don't know if you ever listen to Neal Boortz on the radio or not, but he believes that anyone who breaks into someone else's property deserves to be DRT (Dead Right There).

I once worked in a bad area and would sometimes call for police escort to my car and had asked one of them about getting a gun and the laws about firing it if I felt my life was in danger, etc. I'll never forget what he told me...."Better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6". I used to apologize for having them come out and escort me to my car and they all told me it was much less paperwork for them to offer that service than to have to come out and write up a crime scene if I was attacked.

Thank you all for your hard work! (PS, I'm really not stalking you tonight, I'm just bored and you seem to be on all the boards I've been checking out tonight! LOL)

I like the look and feel of the 357 Magnum revlover :) Though I'm pretty sure if I decide to fire one, I would end up shooting myself in the foot :D

IīM lucky in Europe we donīt have that gun idea, we prefere to put barrs on the windows or alarms....guns are no good, and if some one get in your house and have a gun, and see you with a gun...will shoot, if you are without a gun probably they let you live...
