Re: Thermostat recommendation
I know this reply is long after this thread was active, but wanted to set the record straight. We do not say that a Jumpstart is safer or better than other brands sold, but explain it (as well as many others) is a UL listed product. Due to a law suit with Petco some time ago where they sold an aquarium heater that caused the destruction of a building, the court determined that if a product that does not meet minimum US safety standards causes such damage, an insurer may be able to deny such a claim. In this case Petco put a claim in with their product liability insurance carrier which denied the claim due the policy having an exclusion for such products. Petco disagreed which resulted in the law suit and the decision from the court. This doesn't mean any claim would be denied, but does present a risk to be reimbursed for such damage. It was also determined that not only was the manufacture liable for a claim, but in addition the distributor and retailer could also be held liable, so Petco could be held culpable. Many products in our industry may not meet this "standard" and using or selling them does carry this risk.
