I wouldn't let any animals near my snakes. Dogs, cats. Nothing. Too dangerous for the snake. Not to mention it would freak them out.

When my first snake shedded, I took a bit and let my dog sniff it, just to see how he'd react. Some animals he's fine with, and others not so much.

    He tried to eat it

I actually have had four different dogs around my ball pythons, all of them pointers of one sort or another. I was initially very worried about having hunting dogs around snakes, because the dogs regularly hunt (and catch) (and eat) house geckos and fence lizrds. But my first ball python was Mr. Nibbles, and he got that name for a reason. Our first two dogs ended up getting bitten on the nose twice when they were too curious for Mr. Nibbles' taste. You could practically see them re-jiggering the hierarchy of reptiles in their heads:

    Dog: "Snakes are lizards?"
    Mr. Nibbles: *CHOMP*
Dog: "Ouch! No, snakes are cats."

But our third dog is CHESTER the Chicken Killer, and he thinks a bite on the nose is a challenge. I've gotten a lot more paranoid about keeping the tanks secured and the door to the snake room closed at all times. I'm pretty sure he would eat a snake if he could. Because CHESTER eats everything.

Meanwhile Dog #4 is a foster pointer, maybe mixed with whippet. He likes to watch the snakes in the tanks, but cowers when you show them to him up close. He's never even been bitten!

    too funny.

I own one female bp and want to get a dog in the future, i prob will NOT let them be around each other during handling sessions / letting her roam free but is it ok to let the future dog into the room if my bps in her cage? i keep her in my room so i was just wondering if the dog could sleep in the same room? or would that be something to sort of "feel" out
