Don't get me wrong, I do love Oregon. There's so many wonderful places to hike! However, like you said, there are hipsters everywhere and some people are snobby. Some guy tried to shame me for liking lattes (he said that they are for children; I'm 21) because he only drinks espresso. He said he drank lattes when he was 3. Good for you dude? Maybe that's why he's so bitter.

The girl in the story posted this in a FB snake group i'm in. While she maintains it happened by accident, i am thoroughly convinced that this was an intentional dumb idea gone bad. I have friends with gauged lobes, and without the jewelry in its not like they just stay wide open like a hula hoop, you have to want to put something in there for something to get in there. Listen, i dont want to be too harsh, i am so sure it was intentional b/c i actually can see the appeal of the idea - in theory - i just would like to think that common sense would have prevailed before it got to that point.

I love these stories more when they don't start with "Florida man .. "

It really ticks me off. I, and many others, have been working hard to bring understanding and empathy to the general public about reptiles and their responsible keeping. Educational presentations, explanations and so on and forth.

Along comes one idiot and wants her 2 minutes of fame. And of course, something like that has to go viral. Making "snake people" look like freaks and not making the snake look much better, either.

Like that really happened "on accident". Because Ball Pythons move as fast as Black Mambas. And what did she expect the ER personnel to do about it ? That poor snake going through all that stress and the cold temps for hours. She probably wanted to make a real cool picture and it didn't work out that way.

So whats the next best thing. Head to the ER and make a picture/story of THAT.

I have already gotten several texts and emails from friends and acquaintances today, asking me whether my snakes are as "aggressive" as that "nasty" one and whether I have ever thought to make creative pictures with mine to go "viral".

It's hard to be nice, but I will be. Long as the snake didn't get hurt.

Yeah, definitely not "accidental". I hope the general public sees this for what it is: one woman doing something stupid that seemed like a fun idea at the time, but went wrong. The animal did nothing wrong, and is clearly the real victim here, and I hope the public sees that as well. I'm guessing she had probably done it before this incident without any issue too. Oh well, like they say, there's one in every crowd. Let's hope it's a learning experience and this woman is a better, more responsible snake keeper who treats her animals properly...Ok, now that I feel bad for that snake, I gotta go grab one of mine and appreciate what amazing animals they are. After all, that's why most of us keep them right?

They ARE amazing. And each one is different. I love them. I wish I had room to take in all the sad ones.
