I don't see how these ignoramuses can be blaming the officer for shooting the kid. They are probably the type of people who have a cushy job (or even more likely, they sit home and mooch off someone else) and they would never know job-related stress if it smacked them in the face. Let alone a cop's life-threatening workplace stress What was the cop supposed to do; stand there and let the dirtbag shoot him without trying to protect himself and everyone else there?
Usually, it is the people who are on the wrong side of the law themselves, who complain about police' action.

I'm glad that you got such positive responses Ray and saddened that you expected otherwise. That's a comment on our current society and it's views on certain careers.

I spent 10 years (after the time as a police/fire dispatcher) working in shelters for abused women and children. During that time I was in turn called a homewrecker, a lesbian, and a lot of names not fit to print. I learned to lie to most people about what I did for a living to protect myself and my family from this and as we lived in a small community, the reality of having a very angry abuser show up at my home (our community had a lot of alchoholism and a lot of hunters....not a terribly great combination). I walked into work under police escort more times than I care to remember and saw things I won't ever forget but I also saw smiles on faces that hadn't smiled in far too long and those kept me keeping on even when my own family (sisters, brothers, etc.) didn't support what I chose to do. My husband (now my ex) was also very uncomfortable (aren't I being kind LOL) with my career choice and that makes life very tough.

I'm glad you have a more supportive second marriage Ray and that you support your husband's choice of career Wendy. I know how much that means in the day to day stress levels.

Oh btw in case you all think I've lost my wierd sense of humor....contemplate this....I've been a police/fire dispatcher, a front-line worker for abuse victims....I've also hatched baby turkeys.....and for a few crazy months....ran around in a freakin cold stream stripping the milt from male fishies (I was good at it even if my dear mother wouldn't tell her friends what her daughter really did for a living LOL) :P Umm if you aren't familar with what ones does to strip milt from male fish....I'm NOT going to explain LOL!!!

i agree with ya 100%. it wasn't the police man's fault.(by the way this is my 1st time hearing about this) i feel sorry for that girl and even though i have witnessed and dealt with some unfair behaviour from some cops i know what happened there was not that cops fault what so ever. i also think that the people who are protesting what that man did are reacting in the wrong way and at the wrong person. but that is the way that most of the world is. Irrational. most of society go's into a (excuse my language) @@@@@ fit when things don't seem fair and look to blame it on the person closest to them or the person who they feel needs to get blamed/ in trouble for something(IMO) but anyway yes pumba i agree wuth everything you just said.

lol Jo, you have had some pretty nifty jobs. My weirdest job was helping out at my friend's pet store. I would find myself netting one goldfish out of 100,000 in a tank, for some kid. "It has to be THAT one!"

i just dont see what makes a man stand behind an inesent child a person that aint a man and is an insane criminal i agree with every one in this thread he did what he had to do to try and save every body but it did not work out for the best. in my opinion the man would have probably killed the child some where down the line of the whole process of the gun down or what not. and my regards are with the family i lost my dad on april 30,2005.
