Re: Large irian Jaya!
Sorry to everyone and thanks for waiting I must confess i totally forgot I posted here i havent been really active on any forums this past month with getting back into spring!:P Here are some pics for reference the shotgun lighter is 15" long And yes i know he has stuck shed he is a terrible shedder the only way to remove shed is to put him into my homemade "Snake Suana " for aday https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...jxjaj.jpg.html
Sounds like someone is feeding very regularly. I listened to a Morelia Python Radio show with Nick Mutton the other day and he was talking about bredli which are supposedly large members of the morelia family. He said something along the lines of snakes will grow according to how much they're fed i.e. if fed just enough they will maintain health, if fed more heavily they'll put the energy in to growth.
I've only had two adult IJs and both have got to about 5.5 feet. My male is 9 years old.

Correct.
I think breeders will use a maintenance program for most of their snakes which makes sense.
With boa constrictors, energy toward growth often happens when they are NOT eating. Usually during a period of seasonality. If they are stuffed their energy goes into digestion. You may have heard that on the same radio show when Vincent Russo appeared as a guest.
There are many, many factors that relate to size. Captivity VS. wild comparisons are seldom parallel due to the variables for each situation.
Individual snakes of any species can and do have exceptions on both the large and small ends of the spectrum.
Prey size, and frequency most definitely have an influence however, genetics also come into play.
I personally feel most snakes in captivity are overfed and under exercised.
As far as the IJ's go, its hard to say with any certainty what the end size will be.
The OP may just have a larger individual.
