Look at animal Plastics T8. Costly up front but cheaper long run- my tank and heat mats and thermostats was running will become excess. Buy once cry once. :)

The second time ordering won't hurt as much..... (So I keep telling myself as already need more. Lol)
Herpstat 2 hurt a little more but "cheap" security.

After watching the clips it's interesting as he seems old school like the guy I got my BP from and insists you don't need a stat with the ZooMed UTH. I got one as I wanted to avoid the snake being burned. With more research and information, I now use a Herpstat4 to be 100% sure the snake will not get burned. I will keep the original tank set up I'm using now as a quarantine when my T10 arrives and have the stat as an emergency back up if something should happen to the Herpstat.

So I'm actually just using regular masking tape for that, and it's fine.

The key here is how you use it. If any foil tape is covering the heat tape area (rather than the laminated border) or the probe, it will indeed mess up your readings. As long as you are prudent with the aluminum tape, it works fine.
