    As long as the probe is making DIRECT contact with the mat, then you should be fine w the duct tape. Most people use aluminum tape because it's more easily removable.

    The key thing is, DONT WORRY about the probe being damaged by the mat. It won't get hot enough to do anything to it as long as your thermostat is set to the proper temp.
