Weight gain vary greatly from one animal to another and definitely from one gender to another, you have to remember that males and female do not max out at the same size.

Now if you feed your BP an appropriate size prey once a week it's more than enough and by appropriate I do not mean the maximum they can handle.

As far as prediction it is impossible to gauge that, I have had females reaching 1800 grams by 18 months by feeding 1 appropriate size rat once a week and some that reach that size by 3 years old even 4, it depends on the animal itself and feeding constancy, some animals never miss a meal some will, many animals will also hit the wall around 800/1000 (it can last for months) etc

As for growing female fast the main issue for adult is over feeding, growing a female fast does not mean you will have more eggs, the number of eggs is not dictated by size alone but also by maturity, growing a female fast can mean getting an overweight female, there is a big difference between a nice plump female and an overweight female which is much more likely to slug out The most successful breeders out there do not push their animals especially females, now the new people on the other end they will do about anything to rush from bypassing proper quarantine to over feeding their animals.

It's not a race and overweight BP and fatty liver disease are very much a reality.

Don't worry so much about weight gain and how much your BP should weight at a specific age, feed your animal properly pay attention to proportion more than weight and it will all come into place.

    Thanks Deborah,
This is a very comprehensive response encompassing most of what everybody has said. I hope she grows quickly. I would never try a clutch if she isn't ready so perhaps I should consider picking up a proven or adult if I want to pair some within 2 years.
You make some great points about obesity. Would you please tell us a bit on how you BCS your ball pythons? what are the signs?
