These fake vines are good if you can order online. They can be a bit long (but don't have the largest leaves), but you can cut them in half if they're a bit long (just be sure to sand it down or cover the end under a water bowl or something because there's a wire inside... I think). As for substrate, EcoEarth is a popular substrate that looks like dirt. I don't have experience with it personally--I use aspen--but I've heard good things about it generally. Keep in mind it will raise humidity, though, since it holds it better than aspen.

As for a cheap, good thermometer/hygrometer, this one works pretty well. Just don't get it TOO wet otherwise it'll stop working. Do you have a temperature gun, by the way? That will be able to read the surface temperature (which should be 90F) as opposed to the thermometer/hygrometer (which only reads ambient temperature, which should be about 80F and humidity). If not, this one works well.

Good solutions to your habitat issues.. However, immediately get a cage of mesh over that heat emitter..your snake should never be able to touch light bulbs or heat producing bulbs and heat emitters that are inside the cage.

A better option is to cut a hole in top, get wire w the squares, attach it on the outside of the enclosure and sit emitter or bulb fixture down over hole.. Note, this requires you to have a light fixture that has a ceramic base, plastic ones dont do well with heat emitters.

The pics I supplied are of another critters habitat tht I keep.. However, my pics show you how to keep your snake from being burned. And, honestly, I wouldnt want that fixture in cage due to amt of humidity tht out ball pythons need, whereas, for a dragon, that set up was just fine.

That's mine (it's pretty high up since I only needed to raise ambient like 3 degrees). I just poked holes in the top that the heat gets through. I hear the circular cut + mesh is popular, but then I figured the mesh would heat up and if my bp rubbed against it to get toward the heat, he could get scraped.
