Re: Drawf Reticlated Python breeders
Yeah it's still Sampson. Can I have some more details on his questionable behavior? I was going to go with him since he's so close to me and his animals seemed very healthy and calm.
Why is prehistoric pets bad for dwarfs?
I'll look into Stephanie but I would really rather interact with the snake before buying it. I'm also looking for a very specific retic, a female dwarf goldenchild or motley/tiger goldenchild that has good temperament, as I would be keeping her as a pet

You can be the judge for yourself. He's done his time, but animal cruelty must always be considered when considering a breeder.

Prehistoric preached a few years ago that they breed their mainland females at 10' and how you can obtain smaller retics by feeding them slower and breeding them sooner type of thing. They mix a lot of things in their genetic bags that aside from morphs your true combinations of dwarf and superdwarf may be a mystery. It may even simply be a mainland that was bred small. Just a note as buyers beware.
Re: Drawf Reticlated Python breeders
I'll keep in mind what happened, though 15 years is a long time, and people change.
I definitely don't want to get random/unknown genetics with a retic, so I'll be avoiding prehistoric pets. I also don't agree with breeding them so young to purposely stunt them. Who knows what that does to them long-term

Ask for the parentage also, their SD percentages, and who produced them. Provenance is just as important in the SD retic world as it is in the locality boa world.

Had it been once ok, but it was unfortunately twice which makes it a reoccurrence.

Ah, I didn't see the second time mentioned. I'll likely avoid him in the future. As far as I can tell he's the only retic breeder around here so it seems like I'll have to order online.
I'm definitely aware of the localities of dwarf and super dwarfs, which is why I was impressed by Sampson at the show. He gave good details on both the parent's size and genetics and the % SD/d of the snake I was looking at, and gave me a good estimate of her size in adulthood. I just can't trust an animal abuser to treat their snakes well.
I'm not looking for anything tiny, around the 8-12 ft mark fully grown, so I'll keep an eye out and try to get info on various breeders. Is there any other retic breeder to avoid? Any you would recommend?

Re: Drawf Reticlated Python breeders
Travis Kubes was the best in the industry for super dwarf work. He put everything into his animals but sadly when legislation changed he took a different path. Jason Reed out of Texas is excellent and works with the same lines as Travis. Kris at vital exotics is a great and trust worthy guy but only get % above 50 from him as his 32.5% stock will likely get larger than most anticipate.
Sampson is a smart guy. His brother is very good as well (Aubrey). I did one deal with Sampson early on before I knew his past. But my deal was merely a buy out of an auction he won (paid the winning bid since he didn't really want the snake after an agreement with him).

Re: Drawf Reticlated Python breeders
He seemed very intelligent and knew his stuff but multiple counts of dog fighting is too serious of animal abuse for me to trust him with a future pet of mine. Sure I could get a great snake, but I could also end up with a traumatized one that needs major work.
Can someone ship a retic out of Texas? I know they can't be brought in so I'm not sure if it goes both ways.
Would that be 50% dwarf or super dwarf?

Re: Drawf Reticlated Python breeders
Either. Whichever direction you want to take it. Retics can be shipped out of Texas as long as there is a usark pre ban membership attached which is Jason. Ryan Parker just hatched out some interesting super dwarf stuff as well though. Something else to keep in mind.
