Aw congrats!! There are a ton of snake owners who also keep pet rats, whether just for pets or as breeders.

Similar thing happened to me, except the rat was already a bit older and never became hand-tamed... Then one day, and I tried to tame him as usual, he bit me hard on the finger and blood flowed. O_O He then became food.

That was an unfortunate situation anyway, but if I ever got a rat again, it would be from a rat breeder with at least decently socialized rats. :')

Re: Well... Now I own a pet rat....
Oh cute. I actually love rats too but it doesn't stop me from understanding that snakes need to eat. I once almost had a pet rat when my female wasn't eating frozen thawed at the time. I kept trying to offer her the live one I picked up and she wanted nothing to do with it. I was Just coming to terms with the fact that I may have a new pet when my snake changed her mind. Sad to see the cute little rat go, but ecstatic that my python finally ate after refusing food for two months.

Thanks everybody! I'm really happy I discovered these guys as pets, I'm actually having a lot of fun with them! And because I keep them in the same room I have my BP enclosure, I know exactly when my BP is hungry because she emerges from her hide and start sniffing around non stop! So its a win-win! And Redshepherd, yeah from what I understand, rat bites can be pretty vicious. If I had him, he would've become snake food too. I think I am able to separate pet from snake needs to eat to survive, which I feel good about. But I was also able to switch my snake over to f/t, so I don't have the guilt of killing the rats. Double whammy.
