Re: Need info and help for my ball python!
I always feed whatever the snake was eating before I bought it. If it was eating live mice or rats then I feed live mice or rats, if it was eating frozen/thawed mice or rats then I feed f/t mice or rats. General advice for prey size is a rodent as big a round as the biggest part of your snake. Feeding rats is best IMO since they get bigger than mice so you won't have to feed multiple prey once it has outgrown the largest size mice you can find. If your snake was eating mice before and you want to switch to rats then wait until your snake has ate 4-5 meals consistently and than you can try to switch to rats, sometimes it takes tough love but it's easier when they are younger I've heard but if you have a hatchling then tough love isn't something you would want to try until it has grown and gained some good weight. Also same goes for if your snake was eating live before but you want to switch to f/t, wait till its ate consistently and then try f/t. Tough love is also something you may have to try to switch to f/t but again not until the snake has gained some weight and is healthy. For f/t, whether switching from live or trying to get a new snake to eat the way you prepare the frozen rodent is key to success along with proper husbandry but proper husbandry is key to get a bp to eat anything.
