UNPLUG your UTH IMMEDIATELY, and go buy a UTH that can be controlled as well as a reliable thermostat.

Keep the animal on clean paper towel, clean the wound with betadine and treat with Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine), if it gets worse consult a vet.

Seconding Deb and Pit. No heat would be better at this point than uncontrolled heat!

Well, i guess that just shows you how much of an expert i am not  - so it seems to be a burn - anyway, controlling the UTH is not an option, it is mandatory. But luckily its also very easy. you can spend a few hundred on a Spyder Robotics herpstat (and if you have the $$, i suggest you do so) or you can spend $27 on a simple but totally effective thermostat. Personally, i have the simple one, but paired it with a $12.50 dimmer switch to attempt to have the uth running at an appropriate power/heat level constantly, but with the safety net of the thermostat just in case (for example, if the ambient temp in the room goes up, the uth will be able to convey more heat). But remember, if you want to go the cheap rout, the thermostat is far more important than the dimmer.

Looks like a burn to me as well, and I agree with everyone else.....UNPLUG THE UTH UNTIL YOU CAN CONTROL IT!!!! Sorry if I am repeating everyone else but the thermostat IMO is the MOST important thing you can purchase. Get the snake some treatment and it will be ok.

A UTH, uncontrolled, can easily reach temperatures of 115*F or higher. I have also never heard of a UTH that cannot be plugged into a thermostat. You MUST get one that *can* be plugged into a thermostat.

A thermostat is a MUST have item if you have a ball python period.

A lot of good advice from people that know what their doing, the next step is on you to follow it. Wish you and your snake a speedy recovery.
