Yes, but it shouldn't be much. There is always an office fee, which is $50 no matter what the vet does, the probing was something like $15.

If you have access to a University, contact the biology department or equivalent. If ur lucky some herpetologist will agree to sex your snake for ya at no charge ;) You could also find out if there are experienced keepers in your area and have your snake probed. Hope this helps.

Re: Hello all
Well, you really should have someone else show you how to probe, so doing it yourself really isn't a great option. Call and find out how much your vet charges, just because mine charges that much doesn't mean yours will!

Re: Hello all
And there are a few odd vets out there that want to knock the snake out first before probing it. That's kind of a warning sign in my head, as breeders probe snakes all the time without knocking them out first.

Re: Hello all
Our vet charges $30.00 for the office visit & general health check-up and $20.00 for the sexing (by probe). I figure it's worth the cash in case the snake ever does get sick I'd rather have a vet I already know and has a baseline health checkup already done rather than an unknown vet handling a sick snake it's never seen before.
