There's a good video that Justin Kobylka had on youtube from years ago. He shows how to manage little nippy boogers that you're describing.

I agree. He has quite a few informative videos. Brian does also. He is my first go to videos then it's Justin for confirmation.

I use the same method. First with gloves now without. Once he is out he's in explore mode. May curl back in strike mode but depends on movement he sees.
