Leaving the house now to purchase the container. This is probably silly, but could I clear out the tank and set the container partly on top of the heat spot to avoid purchasing another uth? Just move the thermostat probe to the very bottom of the 6qt under substrate?

Thank you for replying to quickly and being so helpful.

It could work there is no guarantee depends on the pad thickness of the glass, thickness of the tub, substrate etc. All you can do is try and see.

I use both a laser temp gun and digital thermometer. My temps are quite accurate.

Good luck! Hope it all falls into place. For the feeders, sometimes Petland will allow you to purchase newly born rat pinks from them. The adult rats that have given birth may be a surplus. Some breeders of live rodents will advertise on Craigslist and Fauna Classifieds, etc. Hopper mice will be the best option but rat pinks may work as well. Good luck.

Now he's set up in a 6qt sterilite. The uth from my glass tank seems to be working with the thermostat probe buried in the sterilite. I couldn't find a plant saucer so I used one of the cups from a plastic "coconut bra" in its place, and a little Pyrex cup for water. He was super agitated when I went to move him and wouldn't slither into the hide so I just put him down and sat it on top.

I called the guy I got him from and he told me Juju was fed two days before I picked him up (even though originally I was told Sunday was feed day and I got him on a Friday). He says he's going to set me up with the person he buys mice from, but if that falls through I found someone 2 hours away that has hoppers.

Thank you for the input everyone.

The thermostat probe should not be in with your animal....

Why? It's buried under substrate and secured to the base of the container. How else would I use it but to keep the temperature near the snake appropriate?

Urine or water can and will change the reading of the probe.

He ate! It took him 20 minutes, but as I was coming to remove the mouse I heard that tell tale squeak. Once he got himself positioned properly it took him zero time to swallow and go about his business. Yay tiny baby!

Thank you everyone who helped me correct his environment and get him on the proper path!
