Re: having issues with humidity with aspen shreddings
Yea. I have it covered with plexiglass. It's about 80% now all doesn't hold above 50% im just going to have to get rid of the aspen and use cypress

Exchange the bulb for a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) or RHP (radiant heat panel). That will help a bit with your humidity dropping.
You can also mix your bedding... half cypress/half aspen or any mix in between to get desired humidity.

I have a che. But ive hurd there just as bad. It's that not true?

I want to say I had some improvement in using the CHE over red bulbs.. but I've since moved on to an AP with RHP. In doing so I went from having a humidifier piped into a screened tank with much of the screen covered, to not using anything to supplement humidity at all.... with the AP enclosure I had to start mixing my substrate to keep the humidity down. It ran like 98% for days if it was straight cypress... Now I do 50/50 cypress mulch and reptibark. My humidity is staying in the 60's easily, and to bump it I can just put a handful of mulch in or spray/mix in some water.
Re: having issues with humidity with aspen shreddings
You can possibly try using cling wrap instead of the plexiglass for a tighter seal. I'd also switch to a RHP with a reliable thermostat and consider keeping about 75% of your screen covered. I personally used laboratory grade shredded aspen and the humidity in my tubs rarely drop below 60%
You can also add a larger water dish as well. My adults and sub adults get 4" wide, 16 oz deli cups that sit on PVC couplers, so they can't knock them over.

I have a 12 inch diameter 3 1/2 deep bowl. It's pretty big for her lo.
