Good Deal / Bad Deal: Ball Python Pricing

Feeders, new racks, thermostats, electricity, and the newest hottest morph on the market are all expensive parts of the hobby. Many breeders do it for the love of the animals but there is a very true price tag on this hobby and maintaining a stable market helps many breeders go from season to season. I've seen people not hit the odds on a certain project have to pass on another because they didn't have the money for an expensive new project.

The price in the OP's example was determined by the totality of the transaction, not just the morph. The seller needed a quick local sale which limited the number of buyers. Had he been willing to ship and sell on a payment plan the critter would have been priced higher.

Ever work in a pawn shop? The fast money is the low money.

Says the one always complaining about the market being dead, can't have it both ways.

You want to have a strong market support the market stop complaining about pricing or keep saying people are in it for the money.

Take pride, value your animals, don't bash people that put in hard work.

Shop the animal, shop the breeder, price comes last.

Actually in my book price comes first. I love all my animals and if you lose money it's difficult to maintain them properly, and the whole hobby will fall apart. A breeder deserves to at least break even for his hard work to support the hobby, it shouldn't be a financial strain on his family. That makes everyone in the family grumpy. I can't tell you how many people I know that have family issues because of their animal hobbies that break the bank, it shouldn't be like that if you have a little bit of forward thinking.

Didn't I just say "breeders aren't in it for the money" ������

If it's a financial strain then scale back.

I have had tons of hobbies over the years - horses, sailing, hunting/shooting - and they are not self-supporting activities. They are fun, and participating in them is cheaper than paying a therapist, but I don't kid myself that they are revenue generators because they are not.
