Re: 40 Breeder tank to start? and where to buy?
The dollar per gallon sale is exactly what I'm thinking :) that's why I have my 40 breeder aquarium right now, I was just going to go pick up another one for a snake along with a screen lid and some lid locks.

If I get a new tank do you really think I need to clean it more thoroughly than a good rinse?

I live in Florida as well and if you have a tank, I would not count on the relative humidity being in the tank. The heat will dry the air out easily.

There are stickies about how to enclose a tank so that all the humidity doesn't just poof up out of the screen top. You can try those things which should help.

I still wouldn't want to try to set a baby up in a 40 gallon tank. That's HUGE, and even with it crowded, it's probably still going to be an issue. But if you want to try it, then just make sure you go the extra mile in setting it up with a ton of hiding spots. Maybe you can get a juvenile instead of a baby.

Thank you! I am definitely leaning towards juvenile, babies not eating would make me nervous, I was thinking around 200g? I don't know what age I would be looking at there, really just wanting one that's solidly eating (hopefully f/t!) but does that sound about right?

I was planning on covering the top, I didn't think about the heat drying out the humidity, thank you for pointing that out!

Do you guys think it would be possible/feasible to maybe divide off the 40 into like a half and then put the che towards the back with the uth towards the front?

When I first got my BP she was about 3 months and 250-300g. She immediately went into a 40 breeder with three hides and a grapewood branch did just fine, ate perfectly and was friendly and calm.

The entry opening is bigger with bigger sizes, I have mediums and larges and the entry way is definitely bigger on the large, then they get bigger with the bigger ones as well.
