Last thing, would it be smart to use some sort of tile where you can then put the UHP on top of that or would that be kinda bad?

Reptile Basics recommends setting the enclosure on a hard surface to allow the heat to dissipate under the heater when in use. If you need to shim it or use tiles to raise it up a bit to help air flow, then go for it.

I have a herpstat 1 but i really wish i had spent the extra money for the Herpstat 2, because my collection is unexpectedly expanding (haha) . I would have saved some money and an electrical outlet which i never seem to have enough of. Other members have shared there experience with other brands of thermostats if your looking for a cheaper alternative for just one tub. If there is a possibility of expanding, and you have the money you might want to get a herpstat 2.

Depending on what type of setup you have. I have 2 tanks, so I got a Herpstat 4, 2 for heating pads, 2 for heat panels. Honestly i wish I waited a little while because I would get a 6 so I could either have humidity probes, or a free slot to use to turn on a fan if the snake room gets too hot. Maybe i'll use a surge protector to connect 2 heat panels together to free up the slot for the fan.

Anyways... I would honestly go no less than 2, redline 2 isnt much more expensive and you'll be kicking yourself later if you make any additions to your setup or your collection

I bought the Herpstat 6 to replace on/off thermostats and dimmers and then I filled that up and then bought a used Herpstat Pro (older style 4 zone stat) and have that filled with all but 1 zone. I also have 4 VE thermostats and one will be in use soon. Now I'm buying used thermostats so I have backups just in case something fails and I have to send it for repair. I wouldn't get anything less then the Herpstat 1 bc it has the safety relay but no matter what you get I would highly recommend buying a new or used back up just in case and if you add to your collection make sure you have a back up for each thermostat or zone your using. You of course don't need to get back ups but it will put you in a tuff spot if it does fail.

How does everyone setup their Herpstats? Do you use the Heat (Dimming) or Heat (Pulse)?
