Is This a Sign of The Apocalypse

It will almost always be cheaper to buy direct from a breeder. A breeder doesn't have the overhead that a pet store does. A pet store has to absorb the breeder's costs in addition to their own costs. You don't go to a pet store for the low price, but for the convenience. This is also the reason there are almost no non-chain pet stores around anymore. It's hard to make a decent living.

I'm glad to see different morphs pop up in pet stores because it makes people realize all these variations exist and then they may see that ONE animal they really want and then they want to learn more and if they're very very lucky, they end up on here.

No problem with them carrying them, it's just insane to see. When bananas first hit the scene I would have called you insane if you said a big box store would be carrying them. You see a lot of people getting their first snake and it's a three gene animal. ALOT has changed.

The PetSmart in my area has had empty cages for months - reptiles, and rodents. They have birds and fish in abundance, though. I guess the rodent thing had something to do with an infection that swept through their rodents, and they haven't gotten any new ones in yet. They still have 'some' reptiles and can show them to you if you ask, but they're being kept in a reptile room in the back due to 'the weather'. :confusd: I guess it's easier for them to keep the room climate controlled? I'm really not sure, but that's what the employees have told me whenever I've asked.

By 'some', I mean they've got like 1 corn snake, 2 ball pythons, a hand full of little beardies and a couple geckos.

I dont think its the same for all stores. The Petco by me is always full of animals.. but they dont carry snakes.

lol Are you in Grandville, MI? I juuust went to Petsmart and saw the same snake, same price and was very confused by their sudden morph.

Same here I walked into petsmart the other day after reading this post and low and behold they did indeed have a banana ball python for 349.99! And I'm in Wisconsin. I couldn't believe it. It must be a nation wide petsmart thing now. :confusd:

Even since five years ago, it's changed so significantly! Didn't bananas in particular depreciate super fast?

Nope they didn't people think that Banana are fairly new and drop very fast when in fact they are not and did not drop faster than spider, pinstripe or Mojave people just think they do because they were not as involved or paying attention to the market a decade ago.

(Back in 2007 (9 years ago) Banana were in Daytona with a price tag of $60000, yes their priced dropped like any other dom and co-dom but it actually dropped slower because originally only females were produced and released. It's only when male makers were produced and more pre-dominant on the market (around 5 years ago) that price started to drop significantly (just a simple supply and demand thing).
