You should start your own thread. It will help get you better replys. You should be feeding prey as big a round as the largest part of your snake. A small rat may or may not be to big. You will have to compare to your snake. If a small rat is to big look at rat pups or large mice and see if there big enough. There's nothing wrong with feeding to mice in one feeding but it will be more convenient to feed 1. Switching to rats is a good idea bc you can get get bigger sizes then mice so when your snake grows you will be able to keep feeding only 1 prey per feeding. Switching to rats can take time so don't be shocked if your snake refuses. Just wait a week and try again.
To the OP of this thread are you using a digital thermometer with probe for temps? Are you using a thermostat? If your cool side gets lower than 80 using a heat bulb or ceramic heat emitter is fine as long as you use with a thermostat. Your heat pad must also have a thermostat. Also make sure you use 2 identical hides for each side. You want to use identical hides so your snake can't play favorites. Hides from reptile basics is a good choice bc there very dark and secure.
