Sorry about that K~. The only reason I had suggested that is because the guy said ''in my country we dont have reptile experience'' .... I figured he was not in the US or Canada and might have some trouble getting a hold on something. I actually got the idea from my vet (go figure) when I asked him about probes....he just told me if I go that route just make sure to get something that has a really dull end and looks similar to a 'snake probe'. Guess he was wrong. Thanks for the correction :)

Well, I have heard of people rupturing things by being too rough.

Wow, I've never heard of a rupture from popping ... not sure how that is even possible?? Rupturing membranes from probing though is unfortunately way too common.

Maybe people were just freaking out. I read in several places that you shouldn't attempt popping unless you've been shown how due to risk of injury. Is it not true? I was really curious about my baby cali king's gender, but I was afraid to try popping.

I'd say definitely not true. The only risk I could see is not knowing what you're doing and trying to pop and adult that tries to take your face off for screwing with it.

So you can't injure a hatchling either by popping, Adam? It's good to know.

Well, I guess if you were a complete idiot you could snap the snake in half trying to make it evert, but I can't imagine anyone with half a brain hurting a ball python by trying to pop it.

I just thought I would point out there are some species of snakes that should not be popped or probed while hatchlings.. "since this is a general topic.." Green tree Pythons being one of them .. as it has shown to cause some times serious spinal injury

Good point Robert, I use to own a male Biak (Houston Zoo stock no less) that was kinked ... I was told that it was from popping.

Since this topic was in the "Ball Pythons/General" forum I probably felt a little more lax than I should have been in thinking that everyone here was talking about ball pythons. Either that or my obsession for ball pythons is so out of control that I forget that there actually are other snakes out there!

    Thank you for the assist!
