Re: Reptiblr
One of the Tumblr users saw this thread I guess and I've made a mortal enemy out of myself. Oops.

Re: Reptiblr
Ha! That's hilarious. I don't use Tumblr, for any reasons, but I recently read someone somewhere going on about how they prefer Tumblr for all their animal care facts and what-not. I was a little baffled!

I know the answer to that one - idiot pet store owners/employees who spout off nonsense with zero facts backing them up. This isn't even restricted to PetSmart/PetCo. I've heard ridiculously false statements from small mom & pop type stores. I'm sure some of their nonsense is an effort to drive sales, but I've discovered an increasing intolerance for their continued spread of incorrect information. Which is sad - I've actually bought a couple snakes from one place, but now I can barely stand the owner and the store itself because of the bad practices that are not only prevalent there, but encouraged with the information he passes onto his customers. I've 'discussed' several things with the owner, but it really comes back to he either doesn't care, isn't willing to change, doesn't see a problem with how he does things, or doesn't think that someone with less experience than him could possibly know more about how to care for an animal than him.
Things I've heard in a pet store -
"BP are arboreal." (Maybe your tumbler people have been to this store?)
"Het Red Axanthic is a recessive that is getting it's name changed to Black Back." (HRA is a co-dom. It is NOT getting it's name changed, and while it is in the same complex as Lace Black Back, the two are more like Black Pastel to Cinnamon...which are also in the same complex.)
"Reptiles don't have salmonella. That's a chicken thing." (Not all reptiles have salmonella, but they can and often carry it without showing symptoms. Some are affected by it and they can die from it. Without testing, you'll never know which ones are carrying it.)
"You want to get a 20 gallon tank for your baby ball python so they can grow into it." (While possible, not something I would tell a first time BP owner with zero experience and no clue.)
"This spider comes from a good line, so it doesn't have wobble." (...)
"It's safe to co-hab two snakes of the same size, but you'll have to buy a bigger tank so they have more room." (!!!)
:sigh2:

Re: Reptiblr
Reptiblr, like all of the various tumblr communities is dominated with the loud miss informed youth who refuses to hear that they do not know everything, and refuse to learn. I tend to practice ignoring the people who are toxic and just mind my own business and follow people who are helpful and not the infamous "loud toxic youth". (Not saying all of them are youth or all youth are like that, just my general observation is that the loudest tend to be between 12-17)

see THIS POST is exactly what I'm talking about. The rage factor is out of this world. Someone simply pointed out that reptiblr dog piles people who are simply announcing that they got a new pet, and one of the HUGE reptile blogs, who is 90% aggressive to everyone I might add, flipped :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:.
Reptiblr is such an unpleasant place

Oh my dear. That was so convoluted and there was no point other than to be snide, holier than thou, and just put everyone else down to make yourself feel better.
And some one of the "facts" made me scratch my head.
this is why I don't use social media. I'm sure someone would catch me on a really bad day with a bag of llama bait and bear traps.
