My three carpets were produced by Nick Mutton at Inland Reptile. He's a great guy to do business with. I know he keeps his males pretty small so if you do the same you can make it work. Best wishes. Did you decide which carpet you like best?

well, I've got nothing but respect for Nick, but I still think any adult carpet needs more than 12 deep. Indeed the males tend to be much smaller, but I still think even the "smaller" ssp, (jungle, ij), need more than that. post a pic of your carpet, maybe we can figure out the ssp.

yes, see how it goes and upgrade as necessary. I never put any snake in it's adult sized final cage until it's pretty much fully grown. coastals probably go through 6-8 enclosures before they have their final home. I grow the cage with the snake no matter what species.

Don't have one yet but considering a male striped coastal. What do you think?

i think that's an excellent choice. but I'd still count on a minimum 36x18 floor space. i keep adult male coastals in 36x24 and 48x18. that's for his eventual adult cage. i keep hatchlings in 16 qt tubs. you've got a while before you need to decide on final/max cage size. just go get yourself that carpet and figure 6-8 sf floor space when he's grown. IMO, carpets are the best!

My plan exactly and thanks for the advice.

Coastals are beautiful carpets and would be an excellent choice. I was all about jungles until I saw Reinzs' Coastals. I've been hooked every since.

I was all about Jungles as well, but got three Coastals before my Jungle Girl.

Sometimes they're on the smaller side when you get them T. Some breeders feed them sparingly and hope to sell them quickly. My jungle was hatched in July 2015 as well and was only 31g when I got him last September. He was 268g on 2/26/16. Once you get him on a 5-7 day feeding schedule you'll see him grow pretty fast.
