ahh okay so you'd take the snake and decorations out before sliding the tray out. The only snakes I have on a loose substrate are in glass aquarium/cages, I do agree that dumping a glass aquarium style enclosure is a PIA.

I have a build idea for a melamine viv. Build a normal cage without a bottom but in the front under the glass doors, leave two inches under the glass doors and then leave 5-6" off the bottom. So there is a gap in the front where you can slide something in. Measure the interior perimeter and make a 5-6" "tray" out of melamine. That tray will slide in from the front. Then water proof everything. I think that would work. The side and back walls should be able to support the cage properly.
