Salmonella is mostly associated with pet turtles.. but frogs, snakes, lizards.. all have the possibility of carrying salmonella. This does not mean that every individual reptile/amphibian carries it.. if that was true, I'd probably be dead! ;)

Salmonella is in all feces, even ours.. *gasp* :) Just wash your hands before and after handling the snake, any feces/urates, and keep your hands away from your mouth while cleaning the cage, and you should be good to go. No licking the snake... ;)

Elaborating on the salmonella thing......

You probably have injested salmonella at some point in your life without even knowing it. Its present in many foods (namely poultry) and your body usually just fights it off while for you, its just business as usual. People who commonly get salmonella poisoning are usually very young or very old, or have a condition in which their immune system is weakened to the point where it cannot fight off the bacteria.

In other words, identify any risk factors that may be present and take appropriate cautions from there (read: common sense). Don't lick your snake or its feces. Don't tell your ailing grandmother or toddler sister to clean up the snake poop. LOL.
