I got one a few weeks ago for my rack system and I love it.
The only issue I'm having is keeping the temps
consistant on the different levels . But that is probably an error
    on my part

If you're going to connect it to multiple sources, I'd go with either a Herpstat 2 or 4. I run two Herpstat 4s and I love them.

All of my tstats are Herpstat. I have two Herpstat 1s, one in use and one as a spare. A Herpstat 2. And a Herpstat 4. I love them all and none of them have given me any issues. They are great!!!

I have 4 Herpstats. I have two II's and two I's. I love them and would never buy anything else. I'm not saying they are better than everything else, but since I have never owned anything else and never had a problem, why would I?

I have two Vivarium Electronics VE-200's and two herpstat 2's, neither one has failed me yet. Both seam to work equally as well.

It started 1 month after the 1 year warranty expired.

Aside from that I was quite happy with it and am thinking of ordering another one. I'm asking other people's experiences to see if what happened with mine is an abnormality.

We are pretty relaxed on our warranty and happy to help when we can. If you can be without it then for sure send it in and we will take care of that for you. Just fill out the info here to generate a RMA:

If that link doesn't go through you will see that page on our main site under the warranty and repairs section. We'll cover you under warranty and take care of the shipping back to you. You just need to ship it in. If you have any questions contact me though the sales@spyderrobotics.com email as I don't get to check the forums often. :)

We are always trying to come out with new features to make the units fit for any application. The herpstats are firmware upgradable but they do have to be sent in for the upgrade. If you find a feature on a newer unit you really like you can always email me with the info and the current version of firmware the Herpstat has and I can confirm if a upgrade is available and help with the process.

Unfortunately any rack setup has some give and take when it comes to regulation. Because heat naturally rises the top is usually the warmest and the lowest shelf is the coolest. Putting the probe on a middle shelf is usually where you start and then the biggest fact is ambient room temperature. If you have a cool room and try to hit upper 80's-90 on a rack you will struggle. Just too much separation. Bumping the room temp a few degrees can make a big difference in consistency. Also there are other things to consider. If the rack is against a outer wall of a home the cool wall can rob the rack of heat. Same goes for sitting on a cold concrete floor. Or having the home heating duct flowing air across it. Plus racks don't hold much heat. Sometimes you can put a layer of foamboard on the back and sides for particularly stubborn racks. Hope that gives some ideas anyway. :)
