More commonly called African Soft-Fur Rat, or ASF. May have heard them called that. I tried, rats and mice, had more success on rats with her however! I have been seriously considering live, but would rather that as a last resort, purely due to the availability of them for me. I will see how she gets on with the Multi's, but live is something I have been thinking about for a while now.

    Thank you.

Can you get day old chicks? Or small quails? Sometimes difficult eaters will take those and they are less expensive than ASF's.

I haven't tried yet, but could most likely if I put effort into it on the forums!

Also, if the rat is too big she won't eat it. She gets the small rats that are closer to 50 grams than 80 grams.

It sounds like I may have to start spreading out my feeding of her then! Also, she does get smaller prey than she should do, due to the fact that she is a problem, feeder and never eats the appropriate sized meal, always a size below! Thanks for the input :)

Although people seem to disagree on the whole asf thing as go whether or not they work, i know someone who has had snakes that flat out wouldn't touch anything for weeks at a time (mostly rattlers) and the asf was taken in seconds. So for picky eaters or those that don't seem hungry often they seem to help, if you can get them.

Some people don't agree with this tactic, but several years ago I ended up with a problem feeder and I ended up with a feeder I had nowhere to put so I put two female gerbils together and popped it in the vacated cage because I was late to work. I retried the feeder that night straight from the gerbil cage, and instant strike.

For that animal I was extremely successful switching her to frozen thawed as long as I rubbed it in dirty gerbil bedding.
