OKay guys, here comes a smoker!!!! SO COOL!!! NOT...

smoking is dangerous period. The thing about smell is smell is chemicals. What chemicals are in a cigarette? Lets see, ah yes, chemicals that cause lung cancer, blacking of the lungs, breathing difficulties, eczema, rotting of the teeth, thrush, throat cancer, mouth cancer, brain cancer, you name it. It is not healthy period and actually, second hand smoke is even more dangerous. I really don't want to scare you, but you need to know the truth behind this legal drug. I am not sure how many times I have said I would quit....... I think this is maybe the 100th time... but I do want to quit. I can't even walk up a flight of stairs anymore without stopping to catch my breath. It sucks. Its an addiction and many of those who smoke don't admit it to be an addiction. So your neighbors wont care about your health because it has yet to effect them so negatively that they just don't see it.

If you smell it, you are breathing it in, end of story. It is not a good situation for the snake or YOU. Candles are nothing but burning wax with harmless scents in it, we are talking battery acid, nicotine (which is a chemical meant to kill flies that plant uses to defend itself), there is tar, rt poison, and C02, butane, and so much more. One only has to google it. I would get this dealt with soon and even go as far as moving if it can be dealt otherwise. If you are not a smoker, it can harm you just as bad and it will take you less then a year to feel the effects. Snakes are even more vulnerable since their respiratory system is weaker then ours.

Cigarette smoke is no good but....

Smoking cigarettes is legal tho...and from the original post it sounds like they smoke cigarettes outside (if they were smoking inside I’m assuming they would be breaking policies set forth in the lease and boom you have a case). Will you find success in trying to have a policy put in place where your downstairs neighbors would have to walk 10 feet from the building before light up? I think not. If you KNOW they are smoking cigarettes inside a letter to the property manager requesting a walk-through of their unit could be a great option ESPECIALLY if you really do think the smell is getting into your carpets (they will be motivated to investigate that).
