You can get large pieces @ Home Depot or Lowes or similar if you want to cut out custom pieces, much cheaper than 'repti carpet'.

    My first SFE....
I would like to point out that the material I am invisioning as "astro turf" is much different than what I am using (ESU liner). The astro turf stuff I am thinking of is that plasticy type scratchy stuff you would use while camping or something outdoors. Now I could be wrong that is just I call astro turf. The stuff I am using is an actual material..."fabric" if you will, and is much different than that stuff i mentioned above. I like the ESU product as it is easy to clean and I'm not throwing out paper all the time, I do enough of that with the rodents. I have also located a seller online that sells this "material" very cheap, I'm talking 1/3 to 1/2 times cheaper than any pet store or chain store I've found it in. Looks are not a concern for me as I am using tubs as well, my only intent is a healthy enclosure for the animal, if I want to display them they come out of course! 8)

I found some boat carpeting at Home Depot, it's nice and soft. I use it for my geckos. I belive it cost $6-$7 for a 6'x4' piece. Just cut it to the size I needed and it works great. Everything made for reptiles is just too expensive, and Home Depot/Lowe's carries the exact same stuff. Besides, the boat liner is made to get wet and has a rubber back to it, pretty convenient if you ask me. :)

    Searching the site
I was going to say that you don't have to buy the 'scratchy' stuff, they have a big selection of grades/styles--as Becky mentioned. The boat carpeting is much nicer/softer than the low-grade astro-turf.

I use carpeting for my two bps and used to for my colubrids but they poo far too much.
I dont personally spray it, as they can trap moisture underneath which would make nice conditions for bacteria. If you keep up on your cleaning, it really isnt a problem.
I spot clean when the snakies poo and run the carpet through the washer once a week. Works and looks great :)

Sheesh...i forgot about the washer !!Who knows, maybe know ill throw the piece i used to have in roxys tank back in with her.

Last time i tried to clean it i used too much bleach and no matter how much i rinsed it, it still reeked of bleach.

After about 2 days of rinsing it finally got the smell out, i put it back in there, went back 5 minutes later to check her temps and there was a big pile of poop and a big clob of urates, i was very frustrated with her, she could have at least waited a day before she soiled it again, but NO.
