    Survey:
    1) Do you identify as a nontraditional pet owner, traditional pet owner, both, or neither? -Pet Owner (I don't feel any of my pets are non-traditional)
    2) Do you consider your pet (traditional or non) part of the family?-Yes
    3) Do you think a nontraditional pet adds value to your life like a traditional pet would/does?-Yes, however all animals add value in different ways
    4) In 20 words or less, what is the most important thing when choosing a nontraditional pet?-Research, Research, Research! Making sure you are able to provide the best husbandry possible for the animal, not just what is easiest for you, you need to realize these animals have a long life span and that you are making a longer term commitment than a dog or cat would be.
    5) On a scale of 1-5, 1 being very little and 5 being very much, how important is keeping nontraditional pets to you?

I am both a traditional and non-traditional pet owner. My non-traditional pets are family members as are my traditional pets. The non-traditional pets provide just as much value as traditional: affection, shared activities, personalities and quirks, etc. The most important things when choosing non-traditional pets is educating oneself about the animal's needs and care, willingness to make commitment for lifespan of animal, and responsible pet ownership. I would say that since I don't deliberately go out of my way to own non-traditional pets but I do appreciate their availability, so 3.5.

    Both!

All of mine are part of the family.

    3) Do you think a nontraditional pet adds value to your life like a traditional pet would/does?

    Absolutely!

    4) In 20 words or less, what is the most important thing when choosing a nontraditional pet?

Making sure you know what you're doing and that you have the time and ability to care for it for the length of its life.

    5) On a scale of 1-5, 1 being very little and 5 being very much, how important is keeping nontraditional pets to you?

3 (I don't actively seek them out, but now that I'm "into them" I look for them and look to purchase them more often than, say, a cat or dog).

    1. Both
    2. Yes
    3. Yes- owning non-traditional pets provides the opportunity to learn so many new things associated with that pet, creating sometimes a greater bond.
    4. Making sure I understand the animal's needs, and that I have the ability to meet those needs.
    5. 3
