You say size is not an issue, but you may want to consider nonetheless. The difference between an adult IJ and coastal for instance can be significant. Large adult coastals can hit 10 ft and 25 lbs. Cage size, cost of feeding etc. of eventual adult size should be considered. I’ve kept carpets for 20 years and find all varieties to be rewarding to keep and not much different in temperament and husbandry requirements. I think a carpet is an excellent choice. All species will hit a decent size, 5-6 ft in the lower range. Browse around and see what you like, it’ll be your snake not ours. And besides, eventually you’ll end up with a collection of assorted ssp. anyway :D

Another thing to consider, the carpet python world is full of intergrades. All jags have some coastal in them, thus the potential to be larger than whatever ssp it has been mixed with. Diamond intergrades are also somewhat common and can result in a larger than expected snake. One of my largest carpets is a 75% diamond jungle male that’s about 9 ft and 20 lbs. Diamond jungle jags and diamond jungle are very popular. These can be very attractive snakes. As mentioned in previous posts in this thread, Nick Mutton at Inland Reptiles has some very nice snakes available, but you won’t find any intergrades on his site. Check out Will Bird at http://ectotherms.accountsupport.com/, he’s been my go to guy for carpets for about 10 years. You won’t go wrong with either of these breeders.

The reason that I say size really isn't a problem is because I'm okay handling a big snake and feeding what is required. I have a pretty good sized terrarium for the carpet that should do good for a couple years plenty of time to invest in a larger cage If need be.
