I may try the paper towel method once we get moved into the new house just to see if it's any easier but can't imagine it's that much different than the paper.

I think the towel/fabric idea could work safely, if wrapped under and secured around a piece of acrylic or stiff plastic that measures just under the dimensions of your enclosure floor. The extra thickness may require you to re-set the UTH. The easiest way to secure the fabric would be to actually make a pocket for the stiffener to slide into. I think this could be nearly as convenient as disposable paper. Fabric would also give you more options for colour and texture. Do you sew?

I've been thinking about other options with my two...I currently use paper towel, and like it, except that both prefer to burrow under the towel. Yes, they have multiple hides across the temp. zones.

Re: Towel for BP encloser instead of papertowel or newspapers?
    Forgot to add:
nylon zipper at one end for a secure closure.
Sewn Velcro across the edge is another option. If going with Velcro, I would shorten the plastic sheet inside by the width of the velcro.

Some work up front, but think these could make a good substrate.

There are some brands that aren't disposable, but they're not cheap. Personally I stick to newspaper.

When I've used paper towels, the snakes were great at wadding them up quickly. Even hatchlings seem to love making me pull out my hair by wadding all the paper towels up in a corner, peeing on them and curling up on bare plastic to glare accusingly at me when I check on them mere hours later.
