Re: Overly active new baby ball python?
My 200 gm male did not eat 2 weeks post his shed. I just got all my temps and humidity in the right ranges and left him alone other than to spot clean, change water and every once in awhile lift up his hide to check if he was there. Tonight it took him no time to poke his head out of his hot hide and strike at the f/t rat pup I was dangling for him. Last week he was acting like the prey was Godzilla ready to kill him! It takes some time to get comfortable in their new surroundings. But all the above information is spot on and I would try a smaller enclosure and really monitor your temps and humidity.
Re: Overly active new baby ball python?
My girl Seshat is athletic (much like mom) and has been since the day I got her. She's in a large enclosure (128 gallon) with shoeboxes and loves to pop the lids, and at times, flings them across her "condo". She likes to go for "walks" and "stretch her legs" and does this mostly in the evenings. I figure she's likely hunting. When I hold her, she also likes to explore and move around on me to the point where I can't do anything else. She requires my full attention and hands, otherwise she'll fall. Her temperature, bedding, accessories and heat are spot on. She eats, poo's and sheds like a pro. So I know her being active is normal for her.

Has he eaten recently? Sometimes roaming around can be looking for food.....

My little guy will also take his meal constrict and leaves it alone. I just take the rat back warm it in some warm water and he'll usually take it down the second time. I dont wait a couple of days

He stopped frantically roaming and trying to climb, he only really did that on day 1 and 2 in his new tub. Now he's really chill, hanging out in his hide most of the time. He seems like quite a confident snake to me, he likes to lay with his head out of the hide and just keep an eye on things. And yesterday I changed his water and a minute later, he came out to have a look at what I had been doing and then went back to sleep. I also weighed him and he was 128 grams before I fed him so still a little baby!
I was a little worried he wouldn't take f/t because his breeder had been giving him pre-killed but the little noodle is very eager to strike and ate happily so I'm quite relieved.
Glad to hear it all work out!
