Marla was right I found him when I got home from work about five feet from his enclosure under my computer all balled up. I went that night to a hardware store and bought two good latches and locks now only I can get him out.

Thats good. For future reference, check your bed, my RTB decided he wanted to snuggle up with me at night and I found him in my bed when I was making it. lol

Congrats on finding him! :D I'm sure you're relieved. Secure cages are definitely the way to go -- as long as the security is used consistently. I hadn't had an escape since I switched to more secure cages, but when I let a kid get one out and didn't double-check behind her, a latch got incompletely secured and that's all it takes. :(

I am so glad you found your snake! What a relief it is huh? I had 2 of mine get out this time last year- I was freaking out, Joe, was pretty big, my Dad found him cruising in the kitchen. But Hershey was tiny, I turned the house inside out- every day for 2 weeks... he showed up when I just had given up, on the shelf just below his cage. I cried cause I was so afraid one of my babies were gone for good, I felt like a bad snake Mom, once both were recovered and deemed to be OK, we put locks on cages so it would not happen again... and it has not cause we are so anal retentive about our locks. In fact, that made me super careful, got locks for all cages, even lizards.

I had my first BP escape, and the ending was not a happy one. We found her a few days later in the cold basement; seems she got into a small hole in one of the heating grates on the floor and was presumably hiding inside the heating ductwork while we looked for her, for a day or two. Then she fell through a loose duct and landed on the dirt floor basement, then climbed up a shelf and was inches from the ceiling when we found her. All because one of my acquaintences did not lock the cage. But I really can't blame anyone but myself, because ultimately we are each responsible for our animals, no matter who puts them back. When my boyfriend found her, I admit I cried over her body, harder than I have cried at many human funerals.
She was such an awesome snake, had such a b*tchy temperament and bit anyone who tried to handle her, but she was loaded with "personality" and never refused a meal. Here's a pic... she's the big fat female on the right. Interestingly, the snake on the left is Ashes, one of the males I still have.

See what a nice, fat female she was... :(
Even in the pic, you can see how poised to strike she was. If I remember correctly, she bit me after I took the pic! :)

Now that I have rambled on about my escaped snake, all I can say is, don't let there be even a remote chance that your animals can get out. I know that accidents happen, but I really would not want anyone going through the loss I went through.

Ginevive, that is heartbreaking. She is one healthy looking snake! My Henry went missing, and I found him about a week later inside a shoe, inside a shoebox, inside my bedroom closet. That snake had to crawl from one end of the house to the other, up a full flight of stairs, and again from one end of the house to the other to end up where he was. And he had to dodge a cat and a dog!

I am glad you found yours. Sounds like he had a monumental journey!
I often wonder what would have happened to my snake, if it had been summertime. Feasably she could have lived in the basement until someone spotted her. Too bad it had to happen during wintertime. :/

Dang Smynx! Poor Henry did dodge alot to end up there. Wow!

Ginevive- wow, I am so sorry that happened. I bet you are right tho- had it been summer, she would probably have been OK. She was just gorgeous too!
