I will do whatever is necessary. bp pandora, I dont think this has anything to do with breeding. In fact so far the breeding has been the simple part. This is about providing the best possible care for my pets. It is just not that easy to throw a human heating pad and $30 thermostat on a rubbermaid and get the temperatures to where they need to be. My most stable habitat now is my Brazilian Rainbow Boa in the new AP enclosure. With the belly heat routered in, even on an inexpensive thermostat, it is keeping the temps right where I want them. 81-85 degrees on the hot spot. I think part of it is the instability of heating with a human heating pad. Adam, let me know if you see any of those $70 Helix thermostats otherwise I will spring for the new one. In the meantime, I will keep an eye on the male and see how the next couple of days go. There is no mucus right now and no other outward signs of an RI other than the wheezing/whistling. Hopefully it is just an upcoming shed causing it. Until I can do it properly, I am going to keep turning off the heat at night (it doesnt get much lower than 78-80 anyway). How does this sound?

it's really not too much trouble if you take the time to set everything up properly .... and all the trouble pays off one thousand fold when you see those little babies sticking their heads out of the eggs! .... It's one of the coolest things in the world!

breeding is not trouble it is fun... Might be alot of work from time to time but the rewards outweigh the work 10 fold.. Just get a quality on/off thermostat and jeep the temps the same 27/7... But like Adam said if you can find a used helix with all the trimmins I would jump on it...As long as its not on of Adams on/off helix models..lol....Kidding...dont start..lol.. Check out this link to my site and if you have any questions feel free to mail me! Thanks,

So everything seems to be stable now as far as temps. Big thanks to Matt for the thermostat, it rocks! I am still turning the heat off at night. Not sure if I should change things now considering they are locking up daily during the week. The male still has the dents/crinkles in both eyeballs but appears to be wheezing less. I think its a low humidity problem. I have them on Aspen in the low long rubbermaids (the ones with the wheels). I am not sure how to get the humidity up with Aspen or how far up it should be outside of shed. I think it is too low right now at about 45-48%. Thoughts?

Cover up some of the holes you put in the rubbermaid. It should help to raise the humidity a little bit. You may have to mist a bit.

I acutally stopped using aspen for my substrate becuase it wasn't holding in enough humidity for me. (i have a screen top tank though, I switched to the expandable cocanut coir).
