Jeez, how do people get their snakes to pose - any time I want to take a picture, I've got to deal with a runner situation!

Mine have been quite cooperative lately, but reptileexperts (http://ball-pythons.net/forums/membe...reptileexperts) gave me the tip that if they are being really active, put a non translucent container over them for a few minutes and let them calm down. Then when you think they've calmed down, pick up the container and snap away. The trick has been very helpful on a few occasions. The one thing I have to do is give them enough time to calm down. I am so impatient! For my Ball Pythons that are 1,000 grams or less, one of my spare large water bowls works really well. I've also used Rubbermaid or Sterilite containers that hare a solid color for my more active, bigger adults.

Played around a little with the camera and light conditions. I took some comparison photographs of an Ivory and a Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint. I did use a custom white balance (on the camera) for these using the WhiBal card. I kept the settings in the camera the same, ISO 200, f6.3, shutter speed 1/320 of a second. I took a picture outside in direct sunlight, a picture with my wife holding a diffuser in sunlight, a picture with my light kit, and a picture with my light kit and two reflectors. Here are the results.

A quick picture showing the diffuser being used:

Outside shots (they were so over exposed, that I adjusted the exposure by -2.5 in Lightroom trying to get the Ivory to show up)

Here is the light kit with and without the reflectors:

And here are the outside shots (no exposure adjustment) next to the light kit shots.

Let me know what you think.

I'm not sure it's possible to get a true-color picture of a white snake with any other non white-base snake... The outside light difuser is really nice to highlight the browns and vlacks, but the white one is really only visible inside. Maybe you could try outside light with a different color background so it doesn't disappear?
