    I try to do that as well. No live food, because I have had a few that took a very long time to get back on FT, but I keep a variety of FT on hand. Rats, mice, chicks, quail, and gerbils. No one eats them all, but almost all will eat at least two or three types.

    Thanks for all the responses. I asked because I've set up breeding cages for mice to avoid the trouble of trying to find one when I need it, which also neatly solves the wasted meal issue. I was hoping there wasn't some major reason nutritionally speaking that mice were better. I do think it sounds like a good idea to try rat pups to see if he differentiates in case I get into a fix finding mice if something happens. Also I just started with the mice and they haven't even bred yet, so soon is a good time to look for rat fuzzies. Based off the size mouse that works well, I don't think he's quite ready for a pup.
