Definitely some great info in the previous responses. I've never thought that a hook is necessary for even the biggest and meanest BPs. Just touch them with a paper towel roll and it usually curbs the feeding response as previously mentioned. You might also try washing your hands thoroughly before handling.

Do you have other pets at home? Dogs, cats, birds and other domesticated animals can leave scents that induce feeding responses.

Washing your hands in cold water so you a) remove any scent and b) briefly lower your external temperature a teeny bit is something to try on top of all the other advise. But basically, training your girl that hand coming to pick up does not mean feeding time is your best bet. You need to give her different cues for when you want to feed her or when you want to handle her.

My girl is pretty young, and I haven't had any aggression from her that wasn't from feeding. I used to feed in a separate box, but last winter she was so cold she was falling asleep curled around the mouse, so I switched to feeding in-tank. She hasn't slept through a feed since. I also handle her frequently, and we have a little ritual that we do every feed. If I'm not doing her feed things, she's not getting fed.

I have 2 dogs, so that could be part of it. I generally wash my hands before and after handling. Never thought about cold water though! I will be feeding them in their tanks this weekend to see if that helps. What kind of things to you suggest to make her realize that I'm not food?

Tap her with hook or roll of paper towel.

Thanks to everyone for the advice! I fed them last night in their tanks, my male ate a rat pup right off the bat! I wouldn't have thought to try feeding in his enclosure. I was always told not to. I also fed my female, and as usual she ate. I'll let her digest for a couple of days before I attempt to see if I can handle her without her biting me.
