    welcome!

Just thought Id throw in my two cents about heating...
Using strictly a heat pad is just fine assuming your ambient temp (general air temperature) is high enough. You need the ambient temp in the cage to be at least 75 degrees, preferably 80. Then you need a warm side of about 90 and a cooler side of about 80.
I have an easy time acomplishing this because I have my snakes in their own room which I keep warmer then the rest of the house. If you keep your snake in a cooler room, chances are your ambient temp will not get high enough with only a heating pad. If this is the case, I find using a very low watt bulb to warm up the air temp to work just fine. It will lower your humidity some, but there are several ways to up your humidity.
You can use a larger water dish, make a humidifier (cheap and easy to do) mist the enclosure, provide a humid hide box, ect.

This is another reason purchasing a digi thermometer with a temp wand is a good idea. They are easy to move around and get temps from different parts of your enclosure.

Good luck and congrats on the new snakey!

Egads Marla! I will definatly put money aside out of this weeks paycheck for a better thermometer! Currently I do place a decent bit more newspaper over the heater... but still, I don't want a burnt snake!

thanx for all the tips with the heat and such! especially recomendations. :D

You're welcome. I want what's best for your snake, and I certainly understand having to work purchases into a budget. Take good care of him, and he may still be with you in 30 years. :)
