Wow, awesome info, guys! Thank you!

I went and picked up bird perches and a ladder, as well as a taller tub for her today.

The guy at the store said she's already on rat pups, so I'm thawing one for her as we speak.

As for the nippiness, I kind of expected it, but I still jumped, lol. None of my other snakes have ever struck at me, so I'll have to suck it up and get used to it for a bit. Hahaha. I'm going to feed her and leave her for a while. Then I'll start bringing her out on her perch and letting her come to me. I'm sure she'll keep me on my toes. Definitely a more advance snake, but I'm ready and excited!

Boom. First feeding at home down and she took her rat pup with no hesitation. Happy baby.

I'd suggust getting her used to a hook took. I've been using a mini hook to get mine out of his tub and to let him know it is not feeding time. So far, he's taken to the hook great. I've just had him a few months and he has already stopped striking at me when I get him out. I'd agree with the other posters that frequent short handling seems to work best (once she has settled in).

    Good luck and enjoy!

    You'll enjoy your snake.

    That's a beauty for sure!

Please take more photos of it when you get the snake settled in.

I am one for observing their behaviors to the fullest, and while you are able to keep them without perches, I recommend keeping them with some ceiling space and perches.

This is my coastal and she is pushing 6 feet and will be 2 years old in mid June.

They are fairly slender when they are young even at 6 feet. I'd guess we are 5' 8" here.

    The cage she is in now is 48" x 24" x 14".

In about a week she'll be moved into a 48" x 24" x 24". If your plan is to have an enjoyable display setup and snake, you will accomplish it with a taller cage.

All morelia species are semi arboreal, and the carpets will display an array of behaviors if given the opportunity to do so.

You can get rather creative with your display, or go the standard route. The cage on the bottom is where my boa constrictor lives.

The new carpet cage will look similar.

In the wild, coastal carpets are often found 20-30 feet up in the canopy.

If you are able to get your hands on a copy of THE COMPLETE CARPET PYTHON By Nick Mutton and Justin Julander, I think you'll find a lot of good info in that book.

Enjoy your new snake, and don't worry about a few nips. They really do settle down LOL!
